Hornet

I was power washing the house last week when I came upon a nest. It didn't look like there was anything in it, but I decided to spray it anyway. When I did, this huge hornet came scrambling out of the bottom, franticly crawled around the nest twice, and died exactly the way it is in these photographs.

Chemtrail & Sunshine

I've been going through this phase lately where I like to just point my camera at the sun and snap a picture.

Lets call it blind photography...due to the intense glare of the sun there is no way to line up the shot, or even know for sure if you are pointed directly at it.

I just snap the pic and--later in the day--take a look to see what I have.

Once in awhile I get a stunning shot. More often than not--much like life--I get a boring variant of the day before...the beauty, however, is hiding in the shadows. It just needs to be teased out.

That's what happened here. Thankfully there are fantastic apps out there, like Camera+, that allow me to find the extraordinary behind the boring.

Perfect Day

This is another subject I seem to photograph often.  This tower is located in the reservoir I walk/run at.  The urge to climb it possess's me every time I pass it.  I can't, of course, because it is gated, chained, and I'd probably get about halfway up before my newly acquired fear of heights kicked in and paralyzed me until the cops came.  Instead, I spend the next quarter mile or so wondering how much trouble I would actually get in if I ever decide to actually hop the fence.

I take a lot of pictures of sunflowers. I'm not sure why, but I do. Just got lucky to catch this bee flying over it with very little blur!

The Hidden Truth

I took this picture of my daughter in Rockefeller Center three Christmas's ago.  Our entire family was there, and it was an incredibly good time. You cannot tell that from this photo though, and that is what keeps drawing me back to it.  In the seconds before, after, and even at this very moment she was laughing and having a great time.  It just so happens that the second I snapped the picture she looks somber and lost.  It feels like a microcosm of our lives since her mother took her to Arizona...no matter how great the big picture is we both carry a sadness that is always lurking just below the surface.
